Some 100% cotton towels may not be absorbent due to factors like the type of cotton used, the weave or thickness of the fabric, and the presence of fabric softeners or chemical finishes that can coat the fibers. Additionally, new towels often have a layer of natural oils and other residues from manufacturing that need to be washed out before they reach their full absorbency.
