CAT 3 and CAT 2 refer to different categories of Ethernet cables, with CAT 3 being an older standard primarily used for telephone wiring and low-speed data transmission (up to 10 Mbps). CAT 2 is less common and typically used for Token Ring networks, also supporting up to 4 Mbps. For modern data transmission needs, neither is ideal, but CAT 3 offers slightly better performance than CAT 2.
